Bernard G Mills

Fine art photography and paint.

Art college in the 1960s (graphic design and photography), taught film animation at Birmingham Polytechnic in early 1970s, graphic designer 1977-1986, full-time FE lecturer in Art & Design 1986-2006, proper artist since 2006.

Have a studio at Phoenix Art Space in Brighton but also work from home.

Major personal influence was Monica Ross.
Others include Godard, Raoul Coutard, Cartier Bresson etc. etc. etc.

Photography: I tend to produce work in a number of series which have no cut-off point although a recent work entitled Words was limited to only twenty-five (plus) photographs. I also photograph other artists' work for them.

Painting: In 2011, I started a series of paintings which share a common theme: that of tunes that were in my head on waking each morning. I kept a record of the tunes for five years so have a potential of over 1800 canvases to paint. I have, so far, completed one-hundred and eighteen (Nov 2020).

Exhibitions: I exhibit when I can but not very good at instigation. Tend to favour open studios or group exhibitions in Phoenix Art Space. Participated in two Open Houses (2000 and 2015) and the House Open exhibition in 2011.
